EXISTING STRUCTURES

Inspection and assessment of existing structures represents one of the most challenging topics, especially in Lebanon, where a lot of existing building require a professional inspection / assessment due to chaotic construction during the war.

Many tests, investigations, special equipment...are used (not limited to the following):

• Visual inspection
• Concrete cores
• Laboratory tests (by others)
• Schmidt hammer
• Ferro-scan
• Test pits
• Non destructive tests
• Structural steel paint thickness
• As built structural drawings

Based on the inspection data, analysis, interpretation an inspection assessment report will be issued. 

Many Technics of strengthening and retrofitting are used By GIE:

• Custom made Technics
• Addition of structural steel 
• Addition of reinforced concrete jackets or else
• FRP carbon fibres
• Micro-piles and piles (by others)

Demolition of parts of existing structures represents one of the most delicate topics for GIE;

In fact, no demotion is allowed before securing the site, be sure about the safety, the solidarity and the serviceability of the remained structural parts.

Saw cuts , coring , concrete splitter, hammers and else equipment are used. 

It is very common to add floors to existing structures. Inspection, assessment and strengthening (if required) are performed prior to any works.

However, it is easy to add a floor above existing structure, but have you ever think about adding floor(s) below any existing structure?!! Just take a look at the picture and enjoy!!
